Testing Center Personnel Requests

How does a testing center get approval for a new GED Examiner™?

Submit the Testing Center Staff Appointment Request and Certification Form (L-10FL) (PDF, 38KB). Read the directions provided with this form.

There are two steps to this process:

  1. Complete Part I of the request form with appropriate documentation and submit to the GED Administrator for approval.
  2. After receiving approval for Part I, complete and submit Part II after the candidate completes the required examiner training.

Upon approval of Part II by the GED Administrator™, the Florida GED® testing office will submit the L-10 to GED Testing Service® for approval. The candidate cannot administer the GED® test until the GED Chief Examiner™ receives a completely executed L-10FL (must be signed by all parties) or receives a Welcome Message e-mail from GED Testing Service® finalizing the appointment.

How do I get approval for a new GED Proctor™?

Submit the Proctor Appointment Form (PDF, 37KB) with appropriate documentation to the GED Administrator™. Proctors do not have to be approved by GED Testing Service®. Upon approval, you will receive notification via e-mail.

My administration would like to appoint a new GED Chief Examiner™. How do I get approval for this change?

Submit the Testing Center Staff Appointment Request and Certification Form (L-10FL) (PDF, 38KB). Read the directions provided with this form.

If the candidate is being recommended for GED Chief Examiner™ and is currently serving as an Examiner approved by GED Testing Service®, then Parts I & II should be completed and submitted at one time.

Testing Center Changes or Updates

I need to move the permanent storage for my GED testing materials. What do I need to do?

Submit the Test Center Request for Relocation of Official Test Site Form (PDF, 47KB) to the Florida GED® testing office. Photographs of the testing room(s) and secure storage location will have to be provided as well.

Moving the official test center requires a site visit by a GED staff member. Please submit these requests with sufficient notice for the scheduling of a site visit.

My center would like to add a testing location at a new location. How do I get approval to test in this new location?

The new location will be an addendum site. Submit the following documents to the Florida GED Testing Office:
  • L-25FL Testing Center Request for Addendum Site Form (PDF, 59KB)
  • GED Testing Service® Form L-25 (can be downloaded from GED® Access Point)
  • Photograph of the testing room(s)
  • Blueprint(s) of the testing room(s)
  • If overnight storage at the addendum site is requested, L-26 Request for Overnight Storage of Restricted GED® Test Material

If the testing center is not requesting overnight storage and the request is approved by the GED Administrator™, the L-25 form will be sent to GED Testing Service® for approval. If overnight storage is required, then a site visit by a GED® staff member will need to be occur as part of the approval process.

When all paperwork is approved by GED Testing Service®, the testing center will sent an addendum contract which requires the signatures of the GED Chief Examiner™ and the Chief Administrative Officer. This contract must be sent back to the Florida GED® testing office for the signature of the GED Administrator™.

Once all signatures have been obtained on the Addendum Contract, the Florida GED® testing office will send a copy of the Addendum Contract via e-mail to the GED Chief Examiner™. Only once this occurs can the requested addendum site be used for testing.

My center has an approved addendum site at one school and would like to receive approval for a new testing room in that same site. What do I need to do?

Submit the following documents to the Florida GED® testing office:

Additional rooms at a previously approved site do not have to be approved by GED Testing Service®. Upon approval, you will receive notification via e-mail.

Test Scoring

I have not received the results for a candidate who tested more than 6 weeks ago. What process should I used to track what happened to this candidates results?

A testing center should take the following steps to identify what might have happened if a test result is delayed:

  1. Check your transmittal or local documentation to make sure that all required materials were sent to the Florida GED® testing office. A common problem is a missing demographic form.
  2. Check the scoring reject logs that were sent to your testing center with the batch diplomas and transcripts. This scoring reject provides a list of errors that occurred with test materials sent by your center. View a list of GED® Reject Code Explanations. (PDF, 31KB)
  3. Contact the Florida GED® testing office via e-mail (dan.richardson@fldoe.org) or phone and provide the following information:
    1. Test Center Number
    2. Candidate Name (as appeared on the transmittal and answer sheets/demo)
    3. Last 4 digits of the ID number
    4. Birth date

I have a student who took some of the GED® tests in another state and would like to complete the exam series tests in Florida. What do I do?

The candidate can take the remaining GED® tests in Florida and the Florida GED® testing office will convert the scores from the exams taken at an out-of-state testing center.

When the candidate registers to test, he/she must provide an official transcript from any previous tests in other states to your testing center. The candidate may be scheduled for the remaining tests. The testing center should mail the official transcript along with the candidate's answer sheets from the current testing at your center. After the Florida testing session is scored, the testing office will add the highest scores from the official transcript into the GED application.

The testing center must submit a demographic for this candidate since the Florida testing system will not have a student profile from any prior testing sessions.

How does the assignment of testing identification numbers (IDs) work for candidates who do not want to or cannot use a social security number as their testing ID? What do I do for re-testers who previously had an assigned ID but now want to use their social security number as their ID?

An identification (ID) number for a GED® candidate in Florida is generally the social security number (SSN) of the candidate; however, an SSN is not a requirement for GED® testing. If a candidate has a SSN, you should encourage them to use it since official transcripts and diploma verifications include the ID number. Post-secondary institutions and employers like to match the candidates SSN to the transcript/diploma verification SSN.

Please see these specific scenarios for the appropriate action:

Candidate does not produce an SSN and previously has tested in Florida
Search the Florida GED® Records Website, https://ged.fldoe.org/login.asp, to locate the candidate by name and/or birth date. Use the system ID number for that candidate on transmittals and answer sheets, if the candidate with the same name and date of birth is in the system.

Note: This is the only way that the candidate records will be combined in the scoring system.

Candidate does not produce an SSN and is testing in Florida for the first time
Leave the ID number on the transmittal, demographics form and answer sheets blank. Note on the transmittal that you are requesting that a number be assigned to that candidate. The candidate will be given an assigned number (AN) by the scoring office. Once the number has been assigned, that AN must be used on future retests in order for the candidate's record to be complete.
Candidate produces an SSN and previously has tested in Florida using an assigned number
Submit an Identification Number Change form and a copy of the candidate's social security card to the scoring office. Use the SSN as the ID number on answer sheets making note of the ID number change on the transmittal.

Note: This is the only way that the candidate records will be combined in the scoring system.

If you find out that a candidate has GED® records under two different ID numbers, contact Dan Richardson at 850-245-0449 or about the process for combining the records. You will need to provide him with both ID numbers and may be asked to provide a copy of the candidate's social security card/photo ID for verification depending on the situation.

GED® Testing Accommodations Requests

Is a testing center required to offer testing accommodations to individuals with documented disabilities?

Yes. GED Testing Service® policies require that qualified candidates be provided with accommodations upon approval of the GED Administrator™ or GED Testing Service®.

I know that a letter from a qualified diagnostician is required for accommodations requests. If I receive a request that includes a letter from registered nurse, physician's assistant, or a nurse practitioner, should I still submit the paperwork to the GED Administrator™ for review?

No. You must notify the candidate that letters on official letterhead may not be submitted by a registered nurse (R.N., L.P.N.), physician's assistant, nurse practitioner, licensed social worker, or other non-approved diagnostician. Requests with documentation from unapproved diagnosticians will be returned the candidates. The qualified diagnosticians for the four types of accommodations requests are listed below.

Type of Request Approved Diagnosing Professional
Emotional/Mental Health Psychiatrist
Medical Doctor
Psychologist with a specialty in clinical, counseling, education or school
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Psychiatrist

Physical/Chronic Health Medical Doctor
Other Diagnosing Professional for a particular disability
(eg. Audiologist, ophthalmologist, optometrist)

I have a candidate who has an accommodations approval letter that is more than one year old. Can the candidate still test using the approved accommodations? If not, what process should I use to get a new approval?

The approval letter is only valid for one year. If the approval is more than one year old, a new approval is required before the student may use accommodations to test. A request should be sent by the GED Chief Examiner™ to the GED Administrator™ to renew the accommodations request. New documentation may be required. Each type of accommodations requests has different requirements for documentation, so the process varies for each request type.
  • Emotional/Mental Health
    • Documentation is only good for 6 months. Please submit same documentation required for a new approval.
    • You may include information on the prior approval and what accommodations were approved previously.
  • Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
    • Documentation must be within the last 3 years.
    • Please include information on the prior approval and what accommodations were approved previously.
  • Physical/Chronic Health
    • Depending on the nature of the disability, current documentation may be required. Some physical disabilities are temporary.
    • Please include information on the prior approval and what accommodations were approved previously.
  • Learning or Other Cognitive Disability
    • Documentation must be within the last 5 years.
    • Please include information on the prior approval and what accommodations were approved previously.
